Pocket parks in Cremorne

Council is proposing to expand and improve two pocket parks in Cremorne, at Stephenson Street near Dover Street, and at Stephenson Street near Gwynne Street. Community consultation is occurring now, and you can have your say at https://yoursayyarra.com.au/cremorneparks.

Our view

Streets Alive Yarra supports the proposal to expand and improve the pocket parks. Although the pocket parks remain quite small, every little bit helps. Cremorne is likely to host 20,000 new workers by 2030, and they’ll appreciate any available open space, even in pocket parks.

To help alleviate Cremorne’s great need for new public open space, we also urge the state government to fund the acquisition of a large parcel of land in Cremorne, as recommended in the Cremorne Place Implementation Plan and in the the Yarra Open Space Strategy. One option is to purchase the car park just north of Balmain Street, between Cubitt Street and Gwynne Street.
