Wombat crossings

A wombat crossing is a raised pedestrian crossing. The ‘bump’ encourages drivers to slow down and look for people walking, before proceeding over, while the step-free passage makes it easier for people to cross the street.

Before and after

A survey conducted by Safe Systems found that the perception of safety for both day and nighttime had indeed improved due to the new wombat crossing on Gipps Street.
