Yarra can learn from other cities

Many other world class cities are bringing their streets alive by allocating more space to walking, cycling, public transport and place making. Yarra can do this too.

New York

New York is using its World Class Streets program, part of its Vision Zero action plan, to build community support for safer streets:

London

London is spending more than A$2 billion over the next four years to implement its Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy, part of its Safe Streets for London plan. It has also implemented a congestion charge to reduce traffic.

Paris

Paris is calming streets, building bicycle lanes and removing on-street parking. Already ~ 60% of residents are car free.

Barcelona

Barcelona is building superblocks, with quiet, walkable 10 km/h streets surrounded by key access streets:

Vancouver has invested in safe travel infrastructure, lifting the modal share of active transport (walking, cycling, transit) to 50%:
