The Walmer Street Bridge crosses the Yarra River, just north of the intersection between Victoria Street and Burnley Street.
The problem is that the existing bridge is too narrow and not fit for purpose; and there is a limited ‘window of opportunity’ to build a new bridge, owing to rapid development on the southern riverbank.
The solution is to build a new, wider bridge, before access is restricted.
Walmer Street Bridge Coalition
Supporters of a new bridge include the Walmer Street Bridge Coalition, consisting of Yarra and Boroondara Councils, the Walmer Street Action Group, Collingwood and Abbotsford Residents Association (CARA), and the Yarra and Boroondara Bicycle User Groups:
A new bridge urgently needs to built across the Yarra River at Walmer Street for the changing needs of the Abbotsford and Kew areas.Yarra and Boroondara BUGs
