The Walmer Street Bridge crosses the Yarra River, just north of the intersection between Victoria Street and Burnley Street.

Usage

The Walmer Street Bridge is used by people walking and cycling along the Main Yarra Trail and the Capital City Trail.

Problem

The problem is that the existing bridge is too narrow and not fit for purpose; and there is a limited ‘window of opportunity’ to build a new bridge, owing to rapid development on the southern riverbank.

Solution

The solution is to build a new, wider bridge, before access is restricted.
