The expansion was supported by the editorial in The Age on November 22nd 2023 (print edition), after the relevant Council vote:

The state government should approve the expansion of the City of Yarra’s 30m/h trial zone and then follow NSW’s decision to add 30 km/h to its speed limit guidelines so it can be used beyond just trials, where appropriate.

Our view

The expanded 30 km/h zone is wonderful news because it will help deliver a more beautiful, liveable, and accessible city, with streets that are safe for people walking or biking. It aligns with our policy that the City of Yarra should be covered by 30 km/h Low Traffic Neighbourhoods that are linked by a network of protected bike lanes.
