Living Streets

The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, the Australian Institute of Architects, and the Planning Institute of Australia have released a discussion paper on how to bring life back to our local streets:

The discussion paper points out that our local streets are experiencing rapid densification, yet the streetscapes are not evolving, resulting in a deficit of green space. The solution is a ‘living streets’ initiative, ranging from ‘light touch’ to ‘transformative’.

Our view

Streets Alive Yarra applauds and supports the work of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, the Australian Institute of Architects, and the Planning Institute of Australia. We agree that neighbourhoods are lacking green public open space, and that streets can be used a lot better. Specifically, we agree that our streets can be transformed. We urge the Victorian state government and the City of Yarra to read the discussion paper and support the proposed actions.
