The non-profit organisation Strong Towns (based in the USA) has updated their strategic plan, offering good advice for local government in Australia:
Their strategic plan describes their principles, including financial solvency is a prerequisite for long-term prosperity; and their approach, including that a Strong Town is obsessive about accounting for its revenues, expenses, assets, and long-term liabilities (“do the math”).
Their campaign priorities can all be applied to the City of Yarra, including shift the priority of local streets from automobile throughput to human safety and wealth creation:
Our view
Streets Alive Yarra supports the Strong Towns strategic plan, and encourages residents, ratepayers, officers and councillors to review it. Their campaign priorities overlap with our proposed actions, and we again call for local and state government to accelerate vital reforms, so we can build a more beautiful, liveable and accessible city.
