The report points out that as Melbourne recovers from COVID-19, many roads and streets will face severe congestion.

The solution, as recommended by Infrastructure Victoria, is to greatly increase our use of active transport, by investing in safer cycling routes.

In addition, incentives can be used to encourage people to cycle, such as paying a per kilometre rate.

Our view
Streets Alive Yarra applauds Infrastructure Victoria for this report, and urges local and state government to implement the recommendations, particularly to invest in pop-up bicycle lanes and permanent, best-practice bicycle lanes along strategic cycling corridors.
