Problems

River Street is used as a rat run by drivers avoiding congestion on Burnley Street.

Solutions

River Street can be calmed by adding a modal filter somewhere between North Street and Bridge Road. All properties would remain accessible by car, but rat running would be impeded. Options for a location of a modal filter include:

  • Just south of North Street
  • Just south of Murphy Street
  • Just north of Bridge Road

I have lived in Richmond for 10 years and am an avid cyclist, both for sport and for transport. I am very fortunate to have the Capital City Trail at my doorstep which allows me to easily and safely get to my workplace in Southbank. I’ve noticed over the years that the area’s population is increasing and infrastructure is struggling to keep up – we need to move away from the ‘default’ of private car usage as the primary form of transport.
